Custom Celestial Objects

Use the Custom Celestial Objects section in preferences to manage reusable sky objects stored with the add-on. This lets you extend the set of available suns, planets, and other bodies beyond the defaults.

Where to Find It

  • Open Edit → Preferences → Add-ons.
  • Expand the TrueSKY add-on.
  • In the preferences UI, open the Settings → Custom Celestial Objects dropdown.

This section is part of TSKY_PT_Preferences and affects which objects show up when configuring Celestial-related panels.

UI Overview

While details may differ between versions, the Custom Celestial Objects dropdown typically includes:

  • Objects list: Each entry represents a custom celestial object, with a name, description, and optional icon.
  • Refresh / Load controls: Buttons to rescan or load objects from bundled .blend files shipped with TrueSKY.
  • Detail view: For the active object, displays its icon, file path, and identifying metadata.

Changes here update the catalogue of objects available to TrueSKY, not the current scene directly.

Typical Uses

  • Register studio-specific assets

    • Add custom suns, planets, or other bodies that your team uses frequently.
    • Store them in the expected location so they can be referenced by the Custom Celestial Objects preferences.
  • Curate a library of looks

    • Use the list and metadata fields to keep track of what each object represents (for example, "Red giant sun", "Icy moon", "Gas giant").
    • Combine these with presets and Celestial panel controls to quickly assemble complex skies.

Tips

  • Treat Custom Celestial Objects as a library-level configuration: once set up, they become reusable across projects.
  • If an expected object is missing from in-scene UI, return to this preferences section and use the refresh or load controls to rebuild the list.
