Getting Started

Install the add-on, reveal the TrueSKY panel, and run your first setup.

Before You Start

  • Use Blender's Cycles renderer for accurate volumetrics; Eevee is not recommended for TrueSKY.
  • Save a new blend file so path-based features (HDRI output, caches) have a location.
  • Add a shortcut reminder: press N to show or hide the 3D Viewport sidebar.

Install and Activate

1) Open Edit -> Preferences -> Add-ons.
2) Click Install, choose the TrueSKY .zip, and enable the checkbox.
3) Confirm the True-VFX category appears in the 3D Viewport N-panel under TrueSKY 3.
4) If prompted for a license, follow the on-screen steps to activate.

Find the panel fast

In the 3D Viewport, press N, then choose True-VFX -> TrueSKY 3. Use the top tabs (Luminous, Primary, Clouds, Celestial, Space) to move between main areas.

First 10 Minutes in the Viewport

  • Run Setup Scene in the main panel to create the base sky, planet, and lighting rig.
  • Switch through the top tabs to see where each feature lives:
  • Luminous for sunlight and moonlight.
  • Primary for planet size, surface, and atmosphere.
  • Clouds, Celestial, and Space for layered sky details.
  • Open Preferences (in Blender's add-on list) and review Recommended Defaults so clipping, volumes, and color match TrueSKY's HDR pipeline.

What to Do Next

  • Start shaping light and color in the Luminous and Primary tabs.
  • Follow Setting Up a Scene for a guided first render.
  • Save your baseline as a .blend template so future shots inherit the setup.
